Hexadecimal Character Specification

Hexadecimal character specifications are a simple means to specify non-printable characters in search expressions. The most common application is the search for new lines (see below).

\#nn with nn being a hexadecimal ASCII code

\#20 denotes a blank (ASCII 32 = hex 20)
\#41 denotes an upper case A
\#0D\#0A specifies a new line (carriage return/line feed) in Windows based systems
\#0A specifies a new line (line feed) in Unix based systems
